Location: Phoenix, Arizona (On-site 16th Street & Northern)
Status: Exempt

Education: BS in Marketing, Advertising or related field, OR Four (4) years of experience in agency digital media management required. Experience with hands on within high-touch platforms like Meta, Google Ads, Pinterest, TikTok and others required.

PRIMARY ROLE:

As the Director of Performance Media at Defero you will be charged with managing and motivating Defero personnel to ensure their continued learnings and professional growth and be a mentor for less experienced internal media team associates.

In this role at Defero you’ll oversee the team that works through media strategies, executes paid media across all media platforms, and serves Defero and our clients with analytics and tracking. Beyond oversight, you should be able to roll up the sleeves and dive into strategy planning, running paid media and GA4/GTM for analytics and tracking.

In this position, you should have a clear understanding of the media landscape as a whole as well as the roles all paid and organic media channels play in driving success for clients. You will need to be comfortable communicating, both internally and with clients, recommendations on the overall plan as well as rightsizing channels based on budgetary constraints or adjustments that naturally come throughout a campaign/strategy.

Our paid digital media campaigns range from paid search, paid social, programmatic, to video placements and range from small to large advertising budgets. We also manage organic search and SEO strategies for our clients, as applicable. You’ll be charged with being able to establish/manage tracking and providing insight and analysis of campaign performance on both a scheduled and ad-hoc basis to align with client KPIs and success metrics across various accounts/channels.

You’re a digital media rockstar and can wear multiple hats, you understand agency life! You can act as a media planner in that you can develop multi-channel media strategies with rationale as to why. You can act as a media buyer in that you know the ins and outs of the most common paid media platforms and can navigate them with ease. You can act as an analyst by leveraging tools like Google Analytics to not only track and report on client KPIs but to elevate their strategies. You’re a holistic digital marketing thinker and though you aren’t necessarily an active ‘doer’ across these digital marketing avenues, you understand the importance and roles of the following: email marketing, conversion rate optimization, creative, web development, etc.  And importantly, you’re a solid communicator with internal staff setting clear expectations and with clients explaining the ‘why.’

Additionally, you will work to expand your own personal knowledge of needed platform(s) (paid social) and earn identified certifications to more fully develop your own expertise into one of a true holistic marketing expert for the benefits of our clients and as a manager for our internal media team associates.

ROLE EXPECTATIONS:

  • Personnel management & development. Communicates expertise with associates and identifies opportunities to help those associates learn and grow.
  • Work in the office, side by side, with your team to have your finger on the pulse of the moving parts associated with a dynamic media agency.
  • Maintains a pulse on fellow media professionals in the Phoenix Valley and is able to recruit new associates to Defero when needed.
  • Paid media strategy oversight, plan management & ownership. Maintains a high level of expertise across all paid media platforms, including but not limited to paid social, paid search and programmatically placed media.
  • Current and new client strategy & planning. Maintains the ability to develop holistic media strategies for clients, leveraging a variety of media platforms.
  • Reporting strategy & oversight (in partnership with tracking/analytics). Knowledgeable as it relates to marketing analytics platforms including Google Analytics and others that are comparable.
  • Client-facing responsibilities: communications, deliverables. Has the ability to own the room related to performance media and guide client and team conversations accordingly.
  • Process/SOP/documentation management. Learn and then grow Defero’s process across the agency and with clients.
  • Vendor/tool identification & evaluation. Utilizes industry tools to build efficiency into your work to help keep you focused on business outcomes, and constantly on the lookout for new strategic opportunities.
  • IO review and signing. Act as the final stop to ensure contract and final plans map to Defero & client expectations.
  • New Business strategy & execution. Support new business pitch and growth for performance media opportunities.
  • New service line revenue development. Lead thoughts on where and how Defero can grow within all areas of performance media marketing.
  • Practices critical thinking and reasoning skills. Examines the details while not losing sight of the bigger picture.
  • Digests, retains and shares the latest industry news and applies it to client projects as applicable.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required or 4+ years of media planning/buying experience across digital mediums.
  • Past agency experience required.
  • Strong working knowledge of all aspects of paid digital media.
  • Attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple clients, projects and tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess a natural curiosity about digital media – early adopters wanted.
  • Both an overarching strategic and tactical implementer, both are key to this role.
